Description

(**sorry for the double submission, I accidentally removed it from the group the first time it got in T-T)

I might not be able to participate in the RP, so I drew this and wrote a story instead (:
The following is based off of an important concept: the idea that life energy can last significantly longer when an unselfish willpower to live exists - and that this strong energy can be used to counter dark forces as well as protect others.

Mageru's Story

(summary below in "Character responses")

The Medicham's inner power doesn't have to be used only on the front lines. Mageru, don't listen to what they say. You can make a difference in your own way.

--

"Are you a tunnel helper?" "Please, what's the situation like? My husband's in the front lines!" "Is my brother okay? Please! Is he okay? Have you seen him?"

Mageru regretted announcing her presence so loudly. The crowd of people huddling around her was more suffocating than the dark cave itself. "I'm bringing some of you out," she tried to tell them over the noise. "But I can only take a few right now - "

"Take my child!" a mother called out. She was holding the hand of a young Chimecho with a bright blue kimono. Shoving the girl forward toward Mageru, she disappeared as more parents took the cue and swarmed over. Toddlers and pre-teens alike stumbled over amidst teary embraces.

Mageru was surprised but proud that the parents were trusting her with such valuable stock. Taking one of her the smallest charges - an Eevee toddler - by the hand, she led the group out of the cave. Sobbing resounded behind them.

--

The Chimecho was constantly bickering with the other children. They jeered at her, accusing her of being cowardly, while she mocked their lack of understanding her true abilities. "I'll show you I'm not afraid," she cried as she ran ahead. Mageru chuckled at the carefree innocence of the young ones - did they not understand the danger involved?

She blinked, and the Chimecho was gone.

The silence punched her in the guts. She fell. She fell. She fell down a cliff in the tunnels... What will I tell her parents?
Beside her, the Eevee child wailed.

--

This wasn't just some game of hide-and-seek in the caves. This was a game of destruction and death. Mageru understood now what sort of pressure was on her shoulders. The children are in my hands.

Up ahead, a red gleam blinked at them. The group was quiet now. The guilt and the tears had ran out a long time ago. They walked on listlessly.

It was too late that Mageru realized the glow was not a welcoming one. It was creeping along the wall, tendrils of darkness snaking out from the red. Suddenly, it pulsed out, rumbling the cave walls around them. Some of the children screamed and Mageru's eyes widened. The red reached for them...

Fear wracked her body, but it was replaced by anger. Yveltal has no right to take our lives!

And somewhere beneath the anger lurked a hidden sense of responsibility, a hidden determination. The future of Pokimono is in my hands. The future of Pokimono is in my hands. The children are too young to die. I'm too young to die...

As the red grasped them, Mageru squeezed the Eevee child's hand in an absurd act of reassurance, and then shut her eyes.

--

Blue. Everything was blue - a cool, gentle blue. Slowly, Mageru's eyes blinked back open. The Eevee child's eyes were wide open too as he passed his hand through the blue light. Life.

It was... Mageru's life. In the most dangerous moment, Mageru had finally understood what it was that was being asked of her. She was protecting Pokimono's future. That knowledge had lent her determination and a will to exist, and her blue life energy was boosted by this will - enough to counter the red malevolent essence.

Shaken, but renewed, the group continued on.

--

They reached the exit.

Outside, a soft rain was pattering down, soaking into the soil. Children ran to meet their parents, who had escaped from a different route.

Mageru wished she could boast to her friends when this was over that she had been a savior, that she had successfully rescued every life placed in her hands... that would be a lie. She hadn't rescued everyone. The Chimecho with the blue kimono stared at her with defiance from the back of her head.

But at least she made a difference. Her story isn't one of success; it's one of hope. Mageru looked out over the glinting horizon. Pokimono won't need a god on its side to survive - its willpower and faith will be enough to save itself.

Nearby, the Eevee child, safe in his father's arms, waved at her. Mageru smiled and waved back. Then she began her long patrol of the grounds for people who needed help.

Character responses to the situation

:bulletblue: Kosui the Sableye - Kosui, familiar with Noir Vale's tunnels, immediately got to work helping to evacuate and protect escaping refugees.
:bulletblue: Kizu the Skarmory - Kizu decided to help fight the Houndoom and Honchkrow. Unfortunately, he got badly burned and ended up escaping to one of the Noir Vale caves. There, he did his best to help assist refugees in any way he could.
:bulletblue: Rakka the Swalot - Rakka escaped to an isolated tunnel section and did research on Xerneas and the "life energy". She realized, independently from Mageru, that with the right willpower, life energy can last for an unusually long amount of time.
:bulletblue: Mageru the Medicham - Mageru went to the tunnels to help evacuate refugees to safer areas. Initially, she was afraid people would make fun of her for not fighting on the front lines instead (after all, she's a Fight type). She was in charge of a large group of children. Because of her carelessness and distractedness, one of the children fell down a cliff within the caves. The group then encountered an unsafe exit blocked by Yveltal's dark energy and almost perished; however, Mageru was able to resist the energy with her willpower and focus (partially owing to her Medicham abilities). They eventually made it to safety.

sorry for the total cheesineeeeess :nuu: but I really wanted some character development with Mageru and this seemed like the perfect chance.
